What is the SCA?

The SCA is a not-for-profit educational organization devoted to the study of pre-seventeenth century (pre-1600s) Western European Culture. It concentrates on the European Middle Ages and Renaissance, though some members also study Eastern cultures of those time periods as well. Members work to recreate the arts and skills of these eras through recreation of period activities and practices. The SCA was incorporated in 1968, but recognizes a tournament held in Berkeley, California, on May 1, 1966, as its founding date. Check out our Newcomers page above to find out more about the SCA and how you can participate! When you're ready to come check it out, our Activities and Events page will show you where to find a meeting local to you.
